What is a breed standard groom?

A breed standard groom is a grooming style that adheres to specific guidelines and characteristics recognised by breed organisations such as The Kennel Club.

Put simply it is grooming them to the look that is commonly associated and recognisable for each breed

Do I have to get a Breed standard groom for my dog?

No you don’t, you can have any style you wish.

Many people do get the breed standard groom simply because they prefer that look on their pet but it is also important to consider your pets lifestyle.

Do they have a very active lifestyle for example, often out and about getting muddy or exploring bushes or places where they can easily get things caught in their coats? if so, for their comfort and well being you may want them to have a shorter cut than would be considered the breed standard.

Or for your personal preference do you think they look much cuter with a slightly different style, or do you want a style that is easier to maintain and requires less brushing and washing at home.

Unless you are intending to enter dog competitions there is no right or wrong way for your pet to look.

What are the benefits of Ultra sonic teeth cleaning?

Unlike conventional brushes that rely on mechanical brushing, an ultra-sonic tooth brush uses high frequency vibrations to reduce plaque and bacteria. This provides a deeper clean while also making it a stress-free experience for your pet. Regular sessions help reduce the build up of tartar and gum disease.

What is hand stripping?

Hand stripping is a grooming technique used primarily on certain wire-haired dog breeds. It involves plucking dead or excess hair from the coat by hand, rather than using clippers, to maintain the dog’s natural coat texture, appearance and skin condition.

Is hand stripping the right option for my pet?

Hand stripping is not suitable for all dogs even if they have the correct type of coat. The main factors to consider when deciding if this is suitable for your pet are their age, whether they have been neutered, whether they have had their coat clipped in the past and their life style.

As dogs age their hormones change and often this results in their coat softening, making hand stripping more difficult and less pleasant for them. In addition hand stripping takes much longer than clipping their coat, so you may consider it fairer to them to decide to clip their coat as they get older.

Neutering changes a dogs hormones and usually impacts their coat over time, softening it. This makes hand stripping more difficult and less pleasant for the dog and so is not recommended.

Clipping the coat also changes its texture over time and softens it. While it can be possible over time and with a lot of sessions to sometimes return these coats to a hand strip condition, it can ask quite a lot of the dog to undergo it and may not be the fairest option.

Depending on your pets lifestyle hand stripping may not be what is best for you. Hand stripping typically requires more frequent visits than if the coat was being clipped and is a bigger commitment to maintain once started.

Do I need to do anything?

Other than contact me to discuss what service you would like and make the booking you don’t really need to do anything else. We will have a chat where you can tell me about your pet and which service you would like and any specific requirements and then on the day I arrive I just need somewhere to park.

My Mobile Salon is set up to be self sufficient and all services and treatments take place within.

Do you supply your own water?

Yes I have my own supply of clean water sufficient to carry out multiple baths and will safely collect any waste water and take it away with me so there is no run off or drainage at your home.

Do you supply your own power?

I have a mobile generator and so can be completely self sufficient in terms of power needs.

Alternatively I can plug in to an outlet at yours if that is possible.

Typically I only need power for the first hour as after that any electrical equipment needed runs off batteries.
